In Simple Terms
We built Adventurous to be genuinely useful, not to harvest your data. The app works primarily on your device — your location, your preferences, your adventure history — and we don’t sell, share, or commercialize your personal information.
What we do collect — product analytics and crash reports — we collect to make the app work better. That data is processed by PostHog on servers in the United States.
Who We Are
Adventurous is developed and operated by 3 Stags LLC, a veteran-owned small business based in Round Lake Beach, IL.

Information We Collect
Location
Adventurous requests access to your location to generate your daily adventure recommendation. Your precise location is used on-device at the moment you request an adventure and is not stored on our servers. To find places and weather near your adventure, the app sends the adventure’s coordinates to Apple’s MapKit and WeatherKit services, which are governed by Apple’s privacy policy. If you have enabled adventure notifications, the app may use background location access to notify you when you arrive near your adventure destination — this location data is processed locally and not transmitted to us.
Contacts
If you choose to set a profile photo using a contact’s image, Adventurous requests read access to your contacts for that purpose only. We do not read, store, or transmit your contacts list. The selected photo is stored locally on your device.
Usage Analytics
We use PostHog (posthog.com), a product analytics service operated by PostHog, Inc., to understand how the app is being used and improve it over time. PostHog collects:
- Product interaction — events such as app launch, onboarding steps, adventure generation, adventure ratings, and changes to your settings
- Purchase activity — subscription screens viewed, purchases, restores, and trial status (never your payment details)
- Approximate location — a city- or region-level location PostHog derives from your IP address, plus the approximate distance to your adventure. Your precise GPS location is never sent.
- Device and diagnostic information — device model, OS version, app version, and errors encountered
If you sign in with Apple, analytics are linked to the anonymous identifier Apple provides for your account. Your name and email are never sent to PostHog. We do not use this data for advertising or to track you across other apps and websites.
Crash Reports
If Adventurous crashes or hits an unexpected error, a crash report — including technical details such as the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version — is sent to PostHog so we can find and fix the problem. Crash reports are linked to the same identifier as your analytics.
Preferences and App Data
Your app preferences — including day-type settings, distance preferences, notification settings, and appearance mode — are stored locally on your device and synced across your own devices via iCloud (Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Store). This data is associated with your iCloud account and governed by Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy.
Adventure History
Records of your past adventures (dates, locations visited, and votes) are stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This data is not transmitted to our servers.
Apple Sign In
If you sign in to Adventurous using Sign in with Apple, Apple handles authentication and we receive only the information Apple provides (typically a unique identifier and, if you choose, your name and email). Your name and email are stored on your device and in your iCloud account, not on our servers. Your Apple credentials are never stored by us. Refer to Apple’s Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles this data.
Notifications
Adventurous may send you local push notifications, such as daily adventure reminders or prompts to rate an adventure you visited. These notifications are scheduled on your device and do not require us to store your data on a server.
How We Use Information
- Location — to generate your personalized daily adventure
- Analytics — to understand usage patterns and improve the app experience
- Crash reports — to diagnose and fix bugs
- Preferences — to remember your settings across app launches and devices
- Authentication — to identify your account if you choose to sign in
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers below, who process it on our behalf:
- PostHog, Inc. — receives the usage analytics and crash reports described above. PostHog’s privacy policy is available at posthog.com/privacy.
- Apple — processes authentication (Sign in with Apple), payments (App Store / StoreKit), iCloud sync, and map and weather lookups (MapKit / WeatherKit). We never receive or store your payment information.
We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs that serve ads, or third-party data brokers.
International Data Transfers
3 Stags LLC is based in the United States, and our analytics provider, PostHog, stores and processes data on its US Cloud servers in the United States. App traffic is routed to PostHog through our own domain (n.3-stags.com), which forwards it to PostHog’s US infrastructure.
If you use Adventurous from outside the United States — including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland — your analytics and crash data will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses included in PostHog’s data processing agreement.
Subscriptions and Payments
Adventurous offers a free trial followed by optional subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your credit card or payment information. Subscription management is handled through your Apple ID settings.
Data Retention and Deletion
Most of your data lives on your device and in your personal iCloud account. You can delete Adventurous at any time, which will remove all locally stored data. To remove iCloud synced preferences, you can manage iCloud data in your device’s Settings app.
Deleting Your Account
If you are signed in, you can delete your account from the Profile screen by tapping Delete Account. This removes your Apple account identifier, name, email, and profile photo from your device and iCloud, and disconnects future analytics from your account. Your free trial dates are kept so a trial can’t be restarted.
In-app deletion does not yet remove analytics or crash data already sent to PostHog. To have that data deleted, contact us at hello@3-stags.com and we will delete any data associated with your account. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple for Adventurous at any time from your Apple ID settings.
Children’s Privacy
Adventurous is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it, and to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@3-stags.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Adventurous after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
